As the centre and the state governments decide if they will extend the lockdown that was imposed on the 24th of March for three weeks, and is supposed to end on the 14th of April, to contain the spread of the coronavirus infection, various state governments have already imposed restrictions to ensure that the viral spread is curbed.
Even if the lockdown is lifted, experts are suggesting that people should still follow the rules of social distancing, and only step out of the houses when it is absolutely necessary. Gyms, and other public places are also likely to be closed, even if the lockdown is lifted. In such a scenario, it is important to ensure that you get enough exercise, especially when your physical activity is restricted. Here are 3 exercises that you can easily include in your routine, and can practice them at home while you stay indoors.
Exercises to add to your routine during the quarantine
- The inchworm – one of the best exercises that work up your whole body is the inchworm. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Bend down from the waist, and go on all fours. Moving your front limbs forward, try walking with them towards the front, and then come backwards. This makes one rep. Do this exercise for 1 minute or do 15 reps if you are a beginner.
- Plank – An exercise that everyone detests but knows is one of the most effective exercises for your core. Practice a plank every day, starting with 30 to 45 seconds. Extend your plank by 10-20 seconds every day and you will achieve a good time record over a few days.
- The downward dog – A popular yoga pose and also used in Pilates and HIIT workouts, the downward dog is a great exercise to give your body a good burn. You can also club the downward dog with a high plank to make it more dynamic. Start with the high plank pose, and take your body into downward dog, and repeat.
